Several Tipton County middle school students fared very well Saturday at Austin Peay University in the state track and field meet.
Munford Middle eighth-grader Morgan Mitchell competed in three events and is the new state champ in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches, which was a state record. She placed second in the 400-meter dash, finishing less than a tenth of a second behind the first-place runner. She also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash.
MMS eighth-grader Mason Lemmon also competed in two events at the meet, placing in the top 10 in both the shot put and discus.
CIAA student Cameron Purham placed third in the 400 meters and Atyrun Smith placed sixth in the shot put.
