The Chargers returned to District 15-AA play on Monday night and blanked the Ripley Tigers, 8-0. The win, which came on Senior Night, clinches the top seed for Covington in the upcoming district tournament at Ripley.

CHS (20-6 overall, 6-0 district) got all the runs it would need on Brock Lomax’s solo homer over the left field wall in the second inning. Covington added another tally on back-to-back doubles by Carter Davis and Austin Baskin.

A six-run fifth, in which 11 Chargers went to the plate, broke the game open. Singles off the bats of Ty Warmath, Lomax, Christian Delashmit and Drake Whitmer, plus doubles by Rob Hendren and Warmath and two Tiger errors, did the damage.

The Tigers (15-9) managed three hits off starter Christian Delashmit, who got the win. He had some control problems with three walks but struck out nine of the 15 he faced. Carter Davis came on in the sixth and struck out the side. Lomax loaded the bases with a walk and two infield singles in relief, but like Davis struck out the side to close out the win.

Covington travels to Ripley on Tuesday and Bolivar on Wednesday before returning home to face off with Munford on Thursday in the last regular season home game.
