It was quite a weekend! On Friday afternoon, my brother, Tim Burton, from North Carolina, and my sister, Marie Burton-Ivey, from Atlanta, arrived in town for our cousin Patricia Robinson Taylor’s funeral.

After an early supper with another sister, Celia Lake of Covington dropped in to dine with me and my son, Therman. We enjoyed catching up!

On Saturday morning, we dressed for Patricia’s service which was at Greater St. John M.B Church, also in Covington, at noon. It was a beautiful home-going celebration for a lovely little lady. To her father, John Roberson Sr., her stepfather and stepmother, Floyd and Diann White Sr., and her children and siblings, she’s already missed.

Thanks from our families for a beautiful service from Ms. Eva’s funeral home in Millington, all of the doctors and the nurses for Patricia’s care, to Covington Alternative School for the repast meal and especially to Greater St. John M.B. Church’s family.

On Sunday, Nov. 19, at God’s Grace Gospel Church at 2 p.m. Pastor Marvin Hall is guest speaker to help honor our Pastor O. Pearl Burton Andrews for 10 years in the ministry. She’s married to minister Romel Andrews. Their youngest son Michael, Minister of Music at G.G.G. Church, will also be making his first short speech during this service. The church will also feature honors for our aunts and uncles on both our families, Burton and Sherrill. The public is invited; a light repast will immediately follow.

Then on June 30, 2018, the alums of George R. Ellis Elementary and high school of Munford will meet for an old fashioned tailgate picnic at Centennial Park in Millington. It will be free! Just put all of your favorite picnic foods in your truck, camper or auto and wear comfortable attire (no beer). Set up your grills, lean back in your favorite lawn chair, bring your games and enjoy the day with everyone.

You may also post the year that you attended George R. Ellis on or around your campsite. We’ll be behind the YMCA in Millington.

Congratulations to raffle winners pastor Kevin King Jr., from New Hope M.B. Church, who picked up a nice ham from the Jolly Corteria Club’s annual ham giveaway last week. Tickets are now being sold at $1 to go towards two grocery box-give aways just in time for Thanksgiving. Contact LaRue Albritton for more information.

Happy birthday on Nov. 10 to Maxine Hill Carpenter, Christine Armstrong Brown on the 18th and Wilhemia Armstrong Hayes on the 23rd.

On our prayer list is Connie Brown, Ruth Alston, Christine Armstrong Brown, Vernice Ross, Theron Alston, Terrance “T” Sherrill, Minister Pink Nathaniel Sherrill Jr., Doris King, Mary Burton, Mary Ball, Robin Sherrill, Ralph and Glo Dean Davis, Judy Sherfield, Rudolph Boykins, Lena Mason, Clyde Cook Jr., Jessie Lawson, Flossie Woods, Beaulah Wakefield, Carlotta Jones, Mama Lyte, Fletcher and Nadine Dickerson Sr., JaCinta Jones, Jeremiah Burton, Amanda Gray, Doris Deberry and Rhonda Heaston McLin and family of Milwaukee.

Congratulations to all of our veterans and a big, “We thank you” for your service. I enjoyed watching several Veterans Day parades over the weekend. My late husband, Elder Willie L. Tate Sr., who was a chief warrant officer 2 and spent 25 years in the U.S. Army loved this country and was proud to serve.

That is all for this time.

Remember, “God is working in you, are you working for Him?”

Until next time.
