It’s a beautiful sunny weekend and temperatures are supposed to be in the 80s all week! We ended up with a whopping 1.18 inches of rain Friday and Saturday!

This week’s Farm Report:  Some spraying left to do to prevent fungus on our soybeans. Corn is turning yellow and will be ready to harvest before we know it. Cotton is blooming out of the top and looks great! That rain was welcome after the temperatures recently!

But, I missed them! Elizabeth, Justin, Lyla and I were in Panama City for a week and it was in the 80s down there while it was 96 here! How crazy! We had a big time on the beach, in the pool (or by the pool for me), playing arcade games and putt-putt, eating out and walking on the pier. It was a great week – we look forward to it every year – but, of course, “There’s no place like home!”

Caroline got a wagon from us for her birthday in April and I just got it put together yesterday! When you start putting things on a box in the carport, it’s time to get rid of the box! We are working on the playhouse Catherine McCalla, the “Queen of Mt. Carmel,”  passed on to us. I just love it and can’t wait to get it all cleaned up, bug bombed and to see Lyla and Caroline play in it! I might even sit out there and read a book!

On our prayer list at the Covington Church of Christ are Cindy Clark, Steve Carter, Carol Nance, Joyce Whaley, Helen Goforth, Tonya Stanley, Thomas Nance, Vicki Mayfield, the many friends and relatives of our members and all of our servicemen and women.

Sympathy is extended to the Glass family in the death of Shirley Glass and to the Melton family in the death of Brad Melton. Also, to Dot Butler’s family, she passed away this weekend; to Ray Elam’s family and to Sanford Blankenship’s family. They are all in our prayers.

The crew got back from the mission trip to Nicaragua late last night. It was good to see them all back at church this morning!

Happy birthday this week goes to Ann Huggins on July 30, to Courtney Watkins and Kristin Sallee on the 31st, to Caleb Smith and Paulette Pennington on Aug. 2, to Linda Gordon on the 3rd, to Ken Bringle on the 4th and to Zach Higgins on the 5th

Happy anniversary to Cameron and Rachel Dickey on Aug. 4!

Happy birthday at Clopton United Methodist Church to Debbie Owen and Jennifer Wilson on July 24, to Bubba Twisdale on the 26th, to Leah Stafford on the 27th and to Larry Wallace on the 28th!

They will have old-fashioned camp ground services during the month of August, since last year’s was a success!

“Thanks for Reading” this week goes to Wilma Pickard! Sa-lute!

I can’t believe school starts this week! Where did summer go? Well, enjoy this cool weather coming up - cool for August anyway! The “dog days are here!” Also, there is an eclipse on the 21st - buy your glasses to watch it and mark your calendars!

Until next week . . .
