DarSay Burton

It was another nice weekend for me. On Friday I stopped in for a lovely visit while in Bartlett, with my good friend Debra Bell. She’d been under the weather but is much better now.

On Sunday evening, I enjoyed a women’s and men’s day with pastor Kevin King Jr. at New Hope M.B. in Burlison. Their guest was Pastor Leonard Palmer Sr. of Christ Temple Holiness Church in Jackson. He spoke on being born again.

Occasion was given by Sis. Gloria Sherrill Farrow. Sis. Jacqueline Cow delivered the welcome, Bro. Willie Farrow had prayer and Bro. Eddie Whitley had scripture. Yours truly had a poem, “Walking with God.” Elder Palmer Sr. sang beautifully, “I Won’t Complain,” Bro. Whitley sang a lovely solo.

Paster King Jr. is the oldest son of Sis. LaRue Albritton of Jamestown. Kenny King, also a son of Sis. Albritton, has been visiting the family from Los Angeles since the end of June.

My daughter, Danielle Tate Stone and her husband, Darrin, are expecting twins at the end of August, their first children; a boy and a girl. We are all excited.

Our community lost one of our top citizens last Wednesday. Eugene Baker is already missed by all. His daughters, Gigi Baker, has been a patient at St. Francis. Please keep her and the family in prayer.

Repast will be July 22 at noon, at Bright Hill M.B. Church with his pastor from New Hope M.B., Rev. King Jr., officiating. Funeral will be at St. Stephens in Covington.

Our prayers are with Willie Bounds of Shelby County who passed on last Thursday. His services will be this Thursday at 11 a.m., at Jefferson’s Mortuary in Millington. His son is Keith Stone of Memphis, formerly of Jamestown.

Also, we lost a dear friend from our sister community in Burlison, Sis. Claudia Fayne who passed on last week, our prayers are with all of these families.

On our sick and prayer list are Ruth Alston, Mary Burton, Amos Miller’s family, Pink Sherrill Jr., Terrance “T” Sherrill, Rudolph Boykins, Mary Ballard, Clyde Cook Jr., Fletcher and Nadine Dickson Sr., Casey Dickerson Jr. and family, Robin Sherrill, Flossie Woods, Jessie Lawson, Beaulah Wakefield and Connie Brown and her mother, Christine Brown and Beverly McGee.

Happy birthday to JaCinta Jones on July 22, Zairua Sherfield 26th and Annette Tate on Aug. 1

The Jolly Corteria Ladies will spend the day in Dyersburg July 25. July’s meeting will be in Covington at the lovely home of Mildred Reed Sherrill.

That is all for now. Remember, “There’s no time like the present? Especially when the present brings you a gift!”

Until next time.
