BILLY LEO SMITH

DATE OF DEATH - SEPTEMBER 9, 2019

Mr. Billy Leo Smith, 93 of Covington, passed away on the evening of September 9, 2019 at the Covington Care Center.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Byars Hall High School, a Master Sgt. in the United States Army that attended the Augusta Military Academy in 1944 in Ft. Defiance, Va. and served in World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Covington where he served as a deacon. He served as bank director of Tipton County Bank and was the owner of the Smith Oil Company, and was a huge University of Tennessee Football fan.

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Leo Smith (Jody) of Brownsville; his daughter, Marcella Smith of Memphis and his two step-grandchildren, Abby Mackey (Matt) and Wes Crossett.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Webb Smith; his parents, Mal and Virgie Hathcock Smith and by his stepgrandson, Drew Crossett.

The services for Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at noon, with visitation starting at 11 a.m. at Maley Yarbrough Funeral Home. Interment will then follow in R. H. Munford Cemetery.
