Munford Lady Cougar softball coach Glenn Goulder and his players could be having nightmares about Dyersburg.
The Lady Cougars rolled through the competition at the Covington Invitational over the weekend, beating each team they played – except Dyersburg.
Dyersburg beat Munford 5-2 in round robin play on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday in the title game.
The Lady Trojans, who were 16-2 after winning the Covington tournament, also beat Munford in the season opener.
“I was pretty pleased with the way we played overall,” said Goulder. “I would have hoped we would have played a little better in the championship against Dyersburg … I think we've been hitting the ball pretty well, though.”
In the title game, Munford (18-8) got a solo homer from Tori Ray in the top of the fourth to trim Dyersburg's lead to 2-1, but the Lady Trojans answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain control of the game.
Ray also singled. A double by Jodie Duncan and singles from Sam Scott and Christina Cantrell accounted for Munford's only other two runs.
Scott struck out three and allowed nine hits over six innings.
Dyersburg scored four runs in the top of first inning on Friday and made the lead hold up.
Ray had a solo homer in the game Haley Whitney drove in a run.
Duncan, Cantrell, Ashlee Wilson and Makenzie Pugh each singled.
Ray pitched all five innings and took the loss.
