Law Enforcement Officers Memorial On Thursday, May 15, members of local law enforcement agencies gathered at the Tipton County Justice Complex to respect, honor and remember Tipton County's fallen officers. May 15 is National Peace Officers Day and the week in which this day falls is National Police Week.
The memorial service began with a welcome from Sheriff JT "Pancho" Chumley and the parade and presentation of colors by the Tipton County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, local police chiefs and Lt. Kevin Williams of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance by Tipton County Trustee Kristie Glass Maxwell and the prayer by Dr. Freeman Weems III, "Amazing Grace" was performed on the bagpipes by Gordon Abernathie, Andy Abernathie and Dr. Ben Kemker. Remarks, given by United States Army SFC Greg Stube, a Tipton County native, followed the song "If You're Reading This" performed by correctional officer Jason Cochran and deputy Randy Lee. Roses were placed in the memorial wreath by family members of fallen officers. A 21-gun salute and "Taps" were performed and the Covington Integrated Arts Academy Choir sang "God Bless America".
Remembered this year were Charles M. Webb, Chester A. Doyle, Michael Wilson Ervin, Richard "Ricky" Lawrence Rose, John Wayne Delashmit, Charles "Lanny" Bridges and Calvin Wayne Jenks.25 images / created on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 2:14 pm
