This week seemingly flew by. The weather was also up and sown with rain, foggy, misty mornings, and I believe we had one day of sunshine. All in all, this was still a very lovely week and it is December, after all.
On Friday morning, Sister Carolyn Bonner was out with all of her elves playing Santa and passing out nice Christmas grocery boxes.
Pastor Gary Sanders and First Lady Sanders and the Bright Hill M.B. Church family, affiliated with the Neighborhood Christian Center in Memphis, showed their kind-hearted gestures in the form of filled boxes of beautiful groceries for the seniors in the Covington area.
On Friday, our friend from Columbus, Miss., spent the weekend in Jamestown with our family and attended church at God’s Grace early Sunday morning, and then New Hope mid-morning. He took us all to Olympic Steak House in Millington for lunch. Brother Tommy Kidd, we thank you for being in our family!
Happy 53rd anniversary to Pastor and Mrs. W.E. Gatlin of St. Paul M.B. Church of Drummonds. Members and friends, under the direction on Sister Tina Malone Alexander, came out on Saturday morning to the Holiday Inn Select in Millington to help shear their happiness. Congratulations Pastor and First Lady Gatlin. I was a proud member of the church several years ago.
On Dec. 23, at 5 p.m., Pastor Allen Redwell and St. Mark (The Saint) on Wilkinsville Road will celebrate their annual Christmas program featuring their awesome choir and male chorus praising the Lord with songs for the holiday season. Jamestown’s own Sister Irene Harvey will be one of the featured soloists, the public is invited.
Happy birthday to Cindy Burton on Dec. 6., Pastor O. Pearl Andres and Lucille Burton Wright on Dec. 21 and Dec. 25., Christmas day for Mrs. Wright, our aunt. They’re our family’s Christmas babies.
Dec. 21 at 1 p.m., the Jolly Corteria Club will meet in member Mildred Sherrill’s home in Covington to enjoy Christmas festivities. President LaRue Albritton is thankful for a wonderful year.
My son, Daniel L. Tate’s wedding is also Dec. 21 at the Germantown Country Club. I’ll have more of this event next week. Daniel’s one of my late husband, Elder Will L. Tate, Sr.’s sons.
On our prayer list: Ruth Alston, Carl Gaskins, Mary Ballard, Gigi Baker, Mary Burton, Jessie Lawson, Cortez Lee, Leslie Lee Sr., Sam Gray, both Jr. and Sr., Doris DeBerry Edith Sherrill, Daniel Burton, Pastor W.E. Gatlin and family, Lela Cook Mason, Julie Cook Alston, Judy Sheffield and family, Steven Hawkins and family, yours truly, DarSay Burton Tate (healing from a fall), and Rhonda Gail Heaston McLin and family of Milwaukee, formerly of Jamestown, and Christine Armstrong and her daughter Connie Brown.
