The learning curve continues to be a steep one for the youthful Covington softball team (5-12, 3-1).
Covington (5-12 overall, 3-1 district) went 1-3 at its annual softball tournament over the weekend.
Halls defeated CHS 8-7 on Friday.
The killer was a five-run Lady Tiger fifth inning.
Covington scored four in the sixth to get to the final margin but could not get over the hump.
Hannah Clifton had a pair of singles and one RBI. Tierra Williams tripled and drove in three and Alli McDivitt scored a run and had one RBI.
The lone tourney win came against Bolton 8-2 on Saturday.
Clifton got the win. Anna Adkinson (single, double, two RBIs), Clifton (double, RBI), Kaylan Young (two singles), Treasury Poindexter (three hits) and Malia Johnson (double, RBI) provided the offense.
Obion County dropped the Lady Chargers 9-3 Friday afternoon.
An eight-run Lady Rebel fourth inning was CHS’s undoing. McDivitt had a pair of doubles and Clifton and Maddie Lane had one double each.
In the closer on Saturday, Munford defeated Covington 6-0.
Monday’s game with Brighton was called due to wet grounds. No date has been set for a make-up.
The Lady Chargers travel to Haywood tonight at 6 and Obion County tomorrow night at 7. They will host Munford on Monday, Dyer County on Tuesday and Jackson North Side on Wednesday.
All varsity games start at 6:30 p.m.
