Covington head coach David Sage figured he was getting a pretty good player two years ago when Jake Durham transferred to CHS from Christian Brothers.
He was right.
Durham, a standout on last year's Charger baseball team, signed a baseball scholarship with Austin Peay University last week.
“Jake put in a lot of work while he was pursuing his dream,” Sage said. “Now he gets to continue his baseball and educational career at Austin Peay. He got what he deserved.”
Durham, a lefty, was one of Covington's top three pitchers a year ago as a junior. He figures to fill that role again this spring.
Durham, who is also a standout on Dulin's traveling baseball team, visited the campus and liked what he saw.
“The campus is really nice and they have brand new dorms,” Durham said. “I got to meet a lot of the players on the team. It seems like a family there.” Sage said Durham's hard work led to his success.
“He's got a good work ethic. He's always working on something,” Sage said. “And being a lefty, he has a lot of upside … a lot of potential.”
